O-RAN Powered Cell-Free MIMO Network
Key features of the solution
Near Real Time Radio Intelligent Controller (Near-RT RIC), Neutral host, Open E2 Interface, Open Stack, Open Software for the RAN, xApp, Test Equipment, Testing with Real UE
Conventional cellular mobile networks have a common cell boundary issue where cell-edge users experience limited quality of service. Based on the O-RAN architecture, University of York presents a cell-free solution which removes the cell boundaries as well as cell-edge users to improve the overall quality of service. The cell-free MIMO testbed is developed based on open source software components and utilises the intelligence of the RIC to select the appropriate set of RUs to serve each user.
Here you will find the University of York demo published on June 17, 2024 and presented at MWC Shanghai 2024.
